International Employee Perspectives.

I recently sat down with a handful of our employees from the Shanghai and Mumbai offices to ask them about what it’s like to work for Cannon Design on an international level. I recorded the conversation and it is posted below. Feel free to listen.

    Mike-
Thanks for sharing the perspectives of our international counterparts. This is exactly the thing that this blog should be doing.
I found the interview very enlightening. Its obviously fashionable nowadays for large firms to expand to emerging markets abroad, but there is always the risk of office isolation and architectural imperialism. Although this is nothing new, it was refreshing for the interviewees to reiterate the fact that the development of the Mumbai/Shanghai offices must necessarily be be founded on a deep understanding of local cultural ideas about personal space, individual comfort, and methods of work/living. This can only successfully happen if those who were brought up in these cultures and understand their complexity are able to take more substantial leadership roles in the work that is happening in their own backyard.
