Cannon Design’s John Syvertsen has penned a piece for Design Intelligence that is currently featured on the site titled, “Open Hand Studio and Social Sustainability in American A/E Practice.” The article looks deep into the emergence of socially responsible design and what its proper role and place needs to be in the profession at large. The article discusses this while also telling the story of Cannon Design’s Open Hand Studio in detail. Here is a strong passage about the beginning of Open Hand Studio…
“Our story, the story of The Open Hand Studio, began in 2008. Since then I have had the privilege of diving into the subject with my Cannon Design colleagues. In the course of this article, I will share with you some of the experiences, observations and lessons learned in our pro bono journey. In my 35 years of practice, I have never seen such brilliant and positive energy as I have seen in the cause of socially responsible design. We are fortunate to have a generation of young professionals that not only believes that it can move the needle on global challenges, but that it must and it will.”
I encourage you to read the article in full as it’s a great in-depth piece. Share any thoughts and ideas you have below.
