Despite turbulent conditions on North Avenue Beach last Monday night, the Arsenal managed to keep it competitive long enough for them to beat themselves.
Tied 1-1 going into the third game and riding a spirited serving performance by rookie Kelley Folts, Team Cannon Design stormed out of the gates in the deciding third game to a 12-3 lead. They did not, however, expect to collapse down the stretch–giving up 10 straight points and losing the clinching game 21-19–and ended up leaving Court 94 in shock.
“We failed to execute down the stretch,” said a frustrated Bret Eathorne during a rare post-game interview. ”Once again, we somehow managed to pull defeat from the jaws of victory.”
“They just wanted it more, and we didn’t execute,” said Giannina Zapattini as she made her way into the locker room. ”We need to ignore all the off-court distractions and just focus on next week.”
Team Cannon Design plays again tonight, eager to dispel the notion they lack the composure needed to close out close games.
“We’re going to win, baby,” predicted Dan “The MaSheen” Sheen during a mid-week press conference. ”I guarantee it.”
GO CANNON Design ARSENAL!
